mistletoe and midnight
Mistletoe and Midnight
jessica k. shannon
it's always been a mystery
a veiled valentine;
a holiday package
never opened in time.
ice cream with no flavor,
a love song with no rhymes.
a dainty, pretty slipper
not of the glass kind.
questions go unanswered,
as the years crawl by.
pixie dust is waning,
leaving tears in their stride.
the glitter of a new year
blazes through the sky,
perhaps this masqueraded moment
will finally be mine.
but for now there's
no kiss. never kisses.
under mistletoe or midnight.

Aha! Let me say that I usually don't like rhyming poetry--but here, ah! you flit across them with such delicacy and an ease of manner Alexander Pope never managed. I hardly noticed! Your oringinality in framing such a common notion with the drapery of a love-pricked heart is masterful!
"veiled valentine" is priceless, as is your final stanza. Amazing!
Oh and your title is fantastic!
I think you are amazing
